Pantone Color of the Year 2020: Classic Blue

Whether you avidly follow or merely glance at Pantone’s Color of the Year each year, it is always interesting to see what is bound to pop up in trends all over the design and fashion industries. The analysis that goes behind each “Pantone Color of the Year” selection is certainly intriguing. This year’s “Pantone Color of the Year” is “Classic Blue.”

As far as the color of the year selections we, at Kasia Karska Design (your go-to for Vail Valley Interior Design and Design-Build projects), feel like this selection is one that can perhaps more truly stand the test of time. Or at least, if not the test of time, it can withstand within the realms of interior design and fashion a bit longer. Because of its classic feel – hence the name – “Classic Blue” can be one of those staple colors that can be introduced into a home or wardrobe and remain there. Think of blue jeans, for example – they’re truly not that far off in the color way from Pantone’s “Classic Blue.”

“Classic Blue” used in KKD’s dining room design via the fun upholstered chairs, as well as the napkins of the place settings.

A great interior design tip for introducing a more trendy color, like the colors that Pantone reveals each year, is to opt for more impermanence.

Swap out decorative pillows, drape a new throw across your sofa, or change up a rug. That way, if you like to stay on trend with the latest and greatest in colors, you can do so. But this way, you don’t necessarily have to redo every design aspect of your house every couple years.

So whether you’re sprucing up your home or your wardrobe, adding some pops of Classic Blue doesn’t seem like a bad option in our opinion. But, as always, we at KKD encourage our clients to incorporate into their design (and wardrobe!) whatever makes them happiest and speaks to them the most. And, our professional guidance can help with the flow, longevity, and functionality along the way. At the end of the day, it’s not about staying on-trend. Rather, it’s about creating a space you feel at home in. That’s why our company motto is:

“Your life… Your Space… Your Sanctuary”

Here we have a mountain home bedroom sanctuary that was a KKD design-build project (and you can see a “Classic Blue” chair nestled in the righthand corner).

It’s all about you, the client, and what you most want out of a space. And then we facilitate how to transform that space into your own personal respite, your own sanctuary.
