Your Home as Your Sanctuary

What better time than now to transform your home into your own personal sanctuary? After all, each of us is spending quite a bit more time in our homes these days than what is typically our norm. So, why not take a little extra time to transform your space into one of tranquility, a space that exudes peace, and one that is organized in a way that is conducive to whatever needs you have.

KK Design’s owner and lead designer, Kasia, has some great suggestions for you! Kasia is an interior design expert and space planning guru. And, all of her designs (whether a small room remodel or a large custom home) heavily incorporate Feng Shui and Vaastu Shastra to make the spaces she creates flow as well as possible, along with being very functional for their owners. Kasia truly desires that each person’s space that she works with transforms into their own personal sanctuary. Therefore, she is the perfect person to turn to when trying to harness a little more peace and tranquility out of your space and achieve the transformation of your home as your sanctuary.

Here are 3 simple tips to create a sanctuary-like space:

1.

A simple, yet amazing way to add some additional tranquility to your space, as well as brighten it up and give it a pop of color is adding some fresh flowers or plants! Below on the left you can see the beautiful tall glass vase of willows (to add height, texture, and interest). And the photo on the right demonstrates how some fresh purple tulips really do add cheer to a space, as well as some lovely spring color.

2.

Display treasured objects. If you have something you love, show it off in a favored spot in your home. Instead of accessorizing with meaningless items, select things that resonate with you. Items that have a story behind them (perhaps from a memorable trip) or something that was handed down to you is a great place to start. Kasia is a firm believer in incorporating her client’s treasured possessions into the spaces she creates for them. It adds a touch of personalization, as well as really makes a space feel like “a home” vs. “a house.” And, creating a place you can call home is a crucial step into transforming your space into your own personal sanctuary.

3.

If you’re looking to do something a little more involved, but don’t necessarily want to renovate the whole house, concentrating on a single room is a great option! Certain rooms tend to feel more tranquil and sanctuary-like than others. Kasia particularly likes focusing on the master bathroom or an office/library space.

Kasia always emphasizes that a bathroom is a “room with a bath” and should be treated as such. It should be designed to be comfortable and functional. A space one can truly spend time in and enjoy. Making a tub the focal point can be a great way to add tranquility and also create some uniqueness in your design, since there are SO many tub/tile/accent wall combos one can do.

With an office/library space, comfortable chairs are essential – creating an ideal environment in which to work or to simply relax and read a book. A nice view is always a plus, too. Kasia loves incorporating rock gardens and native plants into her landscaping designs, along with large, picture windows to help “bring the outside in.” Having your space more connected to nature is another great way to add some extra peace to your space, again to achieve that sanctuary-like feel.

At the end of the day, it’s all about you, the client, and what you most want out of a space. From there, we at Kasia Karska Design facilitate how to transform that space into your own personal respite, a true home, your personal sanctuary.
